a whole new pretty/tasty world

while we here at pretty/tasty cookies really love to sing the aladdin soundtrack at the top of our lungs, that's not what we're talking about here with this post title. we wanted the pretty/tasty world to know that we are back in the great state of Texas for the foreseeable future. while we know this is sad for durham, nc and the rest of the east coast, we're pretty excited about it. and we hope you're excited about it, too, if you're in the lone star state! if you're thinking "but now you're farther from me" you can spread the word to your friends in the state whose name means "friendship" how jealous you are that pretty/tasty cookies are so close to them now (and they should order some today!).

grad school is over (that's a whole new world for us), we've got student loans to pay off (a whole new burden...), and even though we have big person jobs now there's always time and delight in making pretty/tasty cookies.

as always, we love to play around - don't think that the pictures at the right are all that we can do! we can play with color, embellishments (sprinkles, dragees, etc.), and we started out a long, long time ago not even using cookie cutters but creating shapes and lettering by hand or with stencils. so, you know, we really. love. making cookies that look and taste good.

generally prices per dozen hover around $20-$27 (we totally take into account size, but you have to also remember intricacy/royal vs buttercream/number of colors of icing/making up a design without a cookie cutter plays a role, too). send us an email before you have your next party, open house, promotion, anniversary, or regular ol' thursday night you want to sweeten!

summer again?

so it's been a while since we've posted, a while since we didn't all have tons of articles to read and papers to write, and (embarassingly) a while since we've had a flurry of baking going on in our lives.

but summer comes to the rescue! no more papers, no more books! and it's wedding season to boot! we're traveling to one very special wedding in New York City for taxis and books (oops, we lied... more books, but these will be pretty/tasty) and then taking the pretty/tasty train halfway across the country for the summer again in Texas with a couple weddings already booked there, too. yeehaw!

so hit us up in the summer if you're in the I-35 corridor. we've got some pent-up baking frustration to get out and we're looking for a challenge.

Summertime, and the Livin's CRAZY

First, we need to let you know that pretty/tasty is temporarily relocated for the summer. We're now supplying the I-35 and I-37 corridors between Austin and Corpus Christi, TX with some pretty/tasty cookies until mid-August.

Second, we may maybe might be able to start talking shipping if you want pretty/tasty cookies somewhere else in the world (eh, let's stick with United States). Why? Well, we caved in and started using royal icing only upon request. We're still committed to the idea that the tastiest cookies are the ones with buttercream icing. However, a recent order of 240 (as in 20 dozen, yes) cookies that needed to be distributed throughout Austin convinced our customer and us that royal icing, while not as tasty, sure does keep our cookies prettier in transit. So. We're going to do some field experimenting with shipping cookies decorated with royal icing and we'll let you know when shipping is a part of our deal.

Third, it's SUMMER! Phew. Some of us made it through our first year of grad school (woo woo) and are happily reading books we choose for the first time in months. We're also working internships, so it's that much more important for you to submit your orders ASAP. We can't take as many orders when we work 40, less flexible hours a week as opposed to going to school and setting relatively flexible study hours. But more importantly, YAY SUMMER! Have some fun in the sun, remember to wear sunscreen, and order some pretty/tasty cookies today.

March Madness!

maybe it's just us, but it feels a little bit crazy to think it's already almost march. here at pretty/tasty cookies, we're still plugging away at most of our new year's resolutions (eat more cookies, check. exercise more in order to make the previous resolution possible, check-ish.) the arrival of march for many means looking forward to spring break and flowers springing up and less bundling up/more cute skirt days... but the best thing about march arriving is of course MARCH MADNESS! we're fans of basketball here at pretty/tasty cookies and we want to take advantage of this sports season to make you fans of our cookies. check out our new march madness design package:

if you're gasping because you can't imagine why we'd ever make cookies for that team, whichever one above you react to that way, maybe you should show your spirit and support by buying some cookies of the real team to root for 'round these parts. remember, we're grad students, we need the moolah so we're diplomatic. plus, deep down we're texas longhorn fans, but we figure durham isn't the right market.

now that you're desperate for some pretty/tasty march madness cookies, what next? send us an email! pretty.tasty.cookies@gmail.com with "order request" in the subject line and we'll get back to you. one march madness set of the 4 cookies above adds up to $7. we can totally work with rearranging which cookies you want in a set, though the price will vary (you can understand a basketball is not as difficult to come by as a basketball player, right?) and even play around with the designs. maybe you want to substitute a round cookie with the duke "D" on it instead of the basketball or you want the pennant to say "go 'heels!" or maybe you're a fan of a different team and you want to show your spirit in a pretty/tasty way, too. we can work with that, though it's even more important for you to get word to us soon so we can start working up the design and practice a batch of your cookies. we're legit like that.

so, start making march madness party plans and shoot (haha, get it? shoot, like basketball... shoot a hoop... shoot. ok, it's done) us an email!

pretty/tasty cookies are finally for sale!

pretty/tasty cookies live up to their name. made from scratch, they taste like home, like summers with grandma, like your favorite holiday, like a warm fuzzy feeling. carefully hand-decorated, pretty/tasty cookies catch your eye, impress your guests, complete the theme, make you smile. they're great for birthdays, showers, holiday parties, care packages, i'm sorry's, and i miss you's. they're also just pretty tasty so you may want to get some for yourself.

the basic pretty/tasty cookie is a vanilla sugar cookie with buttercream icing. shapes range from rounds with icing-based designs to shaped cookies like animals and the alphabet, but it isn't uncommon for us to create a shape to complete an order. get an idea of our range by checking out our picture album.

because pretty/tasty cookies are baked and decorated by hard-working, full-time graduate students, we can only take a limited number of orders per week. be sure to email us at
pretty.tasty.cookies@gmail.com with "order request" in the subject as soon as possible to get on the list for the weekend baking run. prices range depending on the number of colors of icing used in the design, design intricacy, whether a cutter exists for the cookie shape or it is hand-cut, the number of cookies ordered, and if it is a truly custom design (a. asking for hearts for valentine's day isn't a stretch, though we don't have pics of hearts up; b. we do a test-run of your cookie design to make sure we get it right for you for the real thing). that being said, a dozen cookies would probably start you off at about $18.
